In responding to another post, I got a visual AHA! There isnt much difference between of what the disease of alcoholism does and what the ring did to Golum! That ought to help with detatchment! (If you have seen/read The Hobbitt and/or lord of the rings!

And upon pondering this I think that Bilbo was a dry drunk...and because it runs in the family, Frodo recovered because he did the hard work and Sam was the co dependent! Going to watch these movies again with very different eyes!

Remember when Bilbo freaks out, its like later, when he is old and living with the elves I think? His eyes suddenly bug out of his head and stuff, because he wants to see the ring. I think. Yep, dry drunk.
