Does anyone know the difference between a CPC, CCA, and CCS?

CCA: Certified Coding Associate - and entry-level coding position.
CCS: Certified Coding Specialist - focused on inpatient or acute care hospital patient coding
CPC: Certified Professional Coder - a general term, from what I understand

CPC is certified professional coder, through the AAPC.

CCS is sort of the same through American health info management association.

Dont know what CCA is.

choublak, are you looking into this as a career? If so, send me a PM, and perhaps I can offer some info. I was a medical transcriptionist for 9 years and have some insight into coding also.

Also, I would suggest doing a Google search for "medical coder forum" or similar term. When I was first considering going into medical transcription, I lurked in several MT forums and learned a LOT about what the job really is, what you really need to know/do to be successful, and what the job market is really like, rather than what the tech school brochure tells you. Be sure to ask about placement rates for the school you are considering attending.
