the analogy challenge! get ready!

its a saturday night and i am quite codie tonight.. so i challenge other codies to an analogy challenge. simply put, come up with an analogy of life as a codie.. or life with the effects of alcoholism.. and try to be as specific and visual as possible.

there are no prizes... just like in alanon there is no graduation day. so any reward is going to have to be internal. or candy always works.

here is my codie challenge analogy.....

being a codie is like having poison ivy. it is right there. itching and wanting attention, but alanon is like mom. dont touch it. leave it alone. dont attach... detach. and so on and so forth.

however, it drives you crazy from time to time. seems to take forever for progess to show up. and feels like it encompasses your entire body. although it is only a small part of you. and sometimes it burns. sometimes it stings. sometimes its just plain ugly. but this too shall pass.

anyone else got a visual analogy?

At times...like as pimple on a butt cheek *LOL*

You said... "and try to be as specific and visual as possible"

*LOL*

A faucet drip and you don't have the correct tools to fix it, so the drip keeps you awake all night. Anon is the hardware store for life's learning.

like sewer gas coming up thru the cold air vent from the basement - not a darned thing can be done about it right now cuz the old man who lives in the apt below (only basement access is thru his apt) - goes to bed at 8pm and is as deaf as a brick. Sewer gas - can't see it, keep questioning if that's REALLY what it is - annoying as hell -

*phew*

It's like trying to put out a fire bucket by bucket......but the dang bucket is full of holes!!!!

Okay I'm in... ;)

Being a codie is like leaning over the edge of a boat hanging on to the A who has fallen and we can't lift him back. We can both hang there until we starve to death or die of thirst. Or we can let go hoping he will grab the life jacket that has been there all the time and swim for shore and we can steer the boat to a safe harbour. :boat

Being a codie is like watching a movie and suddenly you hear CUT!

You hear someone call for the STAND IN.

You realize he is talking to you.

You get up and stand in and take all the consequences for the actor's actions.

Then you hear someone yell TAKE TWO

Then you watch the actor repeat the same scene.

Then you hear CUT

STAND IN

You take the same consequences for the same scene.

Then you hear CUT

TAKE THREE
STAND IN

.......................CUT
TAKE 424
STAND IN

Being a codie is like trying to put a fire out with a bucket of gasoline.

being a codie is trying to live in a beautiful house, with wonderful kids, a handsome husband, lots of friends and family, cool, clean air, surrounded by big green trees.........only problem is, you're a fish, and you're flopping away on the dry, hot sidewalk, gasping for breath!

ZionLion127 06-20-2004 02:56 AM

AS for me,
being a "codie"
is seeing a white
knight in shining armor
even tho' nobody
else sees it.

Gabe 06-20-2004 03:25 AM

Being a Codie is like trying to divert raging flood waters with a dixie cup.

And there is the ever-present elephant plopped down in the middle of your living room. Everyone see's him but nobody talks about him. You can smell his breath and the peanut shells from his constant snacking are all over the floor. You are walking on peanut shells everywhere you go. Everyone tip toe's around him pretending he is not there but his stench has permeated your hair and your cloths and you can smell him even when you can't see him.

being codie is like thinking you are in a comedy only to find out it is really a tragedy or visa/versa

Dutch 06-20-2004 07:59 AM

Being a codie is like trying to light a cigarette with a flame thrower.

keithcancook 06-20-2004 08:24 PM

Even though I am only a man I came up with one all y'all women can relate to....

Being a codie is like putting on your favorite makeup, but when you go back later and look in the mirror your face is all black!!!

prodigal 06-20-2004 08:35 PM

Being a codie...

... is believing you can stop a full-speed locomotive barreling down on you with a toothpick. Suddenly you have a flash of revelation: you don't HAVE to stop the locomotive - just jump off the track and let it roar on by!

keithcancook 06-20-2004 09:16 PM

While they are all very good analogies I liked yours the best prodigal....it offered an alternative. But since I posted two of them I declare myself the winner and am treating myself to a prize....j/k

Jillychatchat 06-20-2004 09:22 PM

Well, codie....is itchy.........outchy........and I swell up big time.......so it is not a pleasant experience to look like Hummty Dummpty...with hives... I would have to ring ring......... 1-800-benydryl... to get relief

When a door closes...look for the window of opportunity...Dreams still come true...So don't stop believing...

Lorelai 06-21-2004 06:32 AM

Being a codie is giving CPR to everyone around you when you are the one that's dying.

Gabe 06-21-2004 09:07 AM

Lorelai, I resemble that remark.
