prayers welcome - newborn grandson in NICU
Hello SR friends.
Wonderful news that our grandson was born yesterday!! He is, of course, beautiful and amazing! He had a slight fever which came down on it's own, but still has an elevated white blood cell count. They put him in NICU (newborn ICU) and found his oxygen levels are sometimes fluctuating, so now he's on oxygen along with antibiotics. He's had a spinal tap and mutiple blood tests. All tests have come back negative so far, which is good and to be expected, but some cultures will take several days. The plan is for him to be in NICU for a week. His mom and dad are doing well, but are naturally very concerned. Thankfully, the hospital provides a room for the parents so they are close to him and can see him often.
His name is Devin and is healthy other than this. He has been nursing, but not much likely due to not feeling well. He has an IV for fluids and meds.
Prayers are very welcome.

Thank you all so very much!! Devin is now completely off oxygen, all the tests have come back negative (which is great!) and the test for inflammation is now normal. He's not nursing much yet. He's still on the IV for antibiotics until Wednesday and is being fed additional pumped breast milk via tubes or something like that. He's was awake more often today and more vocal. Instead of being in the warming bed, he has graduated back to a regular hospital bassinet. He should be going home by Thursday.
I've been thinking of you all and so glad you've kept us in your prayers. I haven't had internet access until getting back home tonight. It's amazing to come here and have such wonderful support. Thanks again. It really means a lot.

My brother was 2 months premature, needed two surgeries and lost a lot of blood and made it through with much less medical knowledge at hand, and my niece was 3 months premature and very strong from the get-go! Sadly, we also know how fast someone who is presumably healthy can be lost. Every day is precious and I truly do live on faith. Thank you for adding to the happy ending stories! I am so very glad Devin is doing so well. <3 <3
