Life begins at 40

Today was my first day as a single dad.

And you know what....nothing to report really! Which is good. The house didnt collapse, the kids didnt starve....we worked hard, cooked, cleaned and watched a movie. And there was not a beer in sight.

Life goes on, it seems.

Only at one stage did I miss AW....mid movie, boys sat on the sofa...me alone. So I asked 10 yr old to come and sit with me (he's a big lump.....nealry crushed me)......I realised I wasnt missing AW, I was missing love and appreciation - and got ample from him.

A happy house.

Oh my!! Yes sir, your grocery bill probably looks like mine..haha!! My AH isn't as tall as you; all the tallness comes from my side of the family; at 5'11" I'm the short one.

I did a bit of rowing.....long time ago! Not something I want my boys to do - too much early morning training

My eldest, 6'8", participated in the Royal Henley last summer with his former high school team. He absolutely LOVED it. He would love to go back with his college crew, but don't know if that will happen. Maybe some day. I come from a basketball family so there was a bit of a learning curve with this sport, but I've thoroughly enjoyed every regatta of his I can attend. I have great respect for crew athletes and the hard work they put into it.

Am with you on the menu planning! I do it every Sunday afternoon with my juniors (6 & 2 years old) and we pop it on the fridge with any details of babysitters etc (I work occasional evenings within my role). We also choose a word of the week. Silly but fun. This week it's 'patience'.. Menu planning helps us keep out budgets in control (STBXAH lost his job ergo we get the barest minimum of contribution from him..£28 a month...sigh..) but is also fun although 2 yo old just bellows 'soup' lol.. But we all contribute and I think they like it. Saves me thundering home after work and flailing around the kitchen. Hope you're feeling okay, Lewis. I actually find the house much easier to run without an A living with me-Turing sometimes yes, but much easier to plan and organise. The school/nursery/office run is like an oiled machine and our weekends are much more freestyle. Good balance. All the best for the week ahead!!

Your day sounds, well...normal. That is awesome for you guys. The loneliness comes and goes. The busier you are, the less lonely you will be. With 4 kids, i am sure you will have a lot going on.

We had chili tonight too. Turkey chili though. very good and healthy.

Me too! I'm glad you had a "normal" stress-free day.
Roast beef in the slow cooker sounds great. Don't forget to raid the spice cabinet for some great herbs to go in it after you brown the meat

Carmelized onions are easy, cheap, and make everything better--dump a couple of those on top of the meat when you start and you will be the master chef. . .
