Getting what you want vs what you need
Getting what you want vs what you need
I started taking my girls back to church last spring after falling away from doing so for a long time mostly bc of nasty attitude from
XAH when I would.
Recently in this parent group I joined while the girls are in Sunday school
there was a discussion that came up about how God doesn't give us what we want but rather what we need.
Everyone talked about it and have examples of how that can be hard to accept etc and I simply haven't been able to stop thinking about it since.
I've been finding that reminding myself of this simple line when I find myself upset about how things are or wishing things could
be different helps take the edge off that sadness some and just wanted to pass it on incase it helps someone else too.

Thank you for sharing that. It's such a good reminder - sort of like having a gratitude list in your journal every night - that while we may not have everything we want, we may actually have what we need.

I think I would rather hear it as: We need to remember that in life good and bad things happen to people, sometimes for no reason at all. However, we are given the power and it is our responsibility to overcome such adversity and become whole again. Also, we need to remember that the end result may turn out to not be what we had expected or hoped for.
WTBH, thanks for a great post. I've just recently moved to Memphis TN and a saying I hear a lot here is " it is what it is ".
I really like that as it is simple yet is a good reminder that it isn't my job to run the universe.
Keep up the good work.

I'm in a similar place. When I realize that I am trying to run the world again, and it is not bending to my wishes, I hear myself say to my HP, "I will to will Thy will".
It's like breathing a sigh of relief, and letting go. Then I feel peace, and things seem to go better.

Here is the Top Down view I have been trying to get a grasp on . . . .
-------------------
As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
-----------------------
Well ok. If He says so, I suppose I can accept that.
Guess He knows our Wants and Needs better than we do?
Have not seen anything to argue about it.
