I'm also going to agree with Florence here, you really just can't apply logic to alcoholism. Trying to analyze all of it and compartmentalize it into something that makes some kind of sense or pattern enhances a Codie's 'disease' by giving us a false sense of control or understanding. It makes us emotionally sicker than the addict themselves sometimes, IMHO.
