Alateen Sponsor(s)?
They passed out a flyer tonight at the Catholic Church Alanon.
It was for signing up for a class / background check / etc to become an Alateen Sponsor.
That is where you "babysit" a group once a week or so, help kids with problems, etc.
Would not want to do that in any group my kid(s) were in, (and I am VERY sure they would not want me to) but maybe out here in the sticks (rural Texas -- project sites) would be a good thing, or as some sort of backup back around Dallas.
Dunno. Was wondering if anyone here or lurkers do this, what they thought of it, cautions, caveats, etc.
Thanks!

Well, dropping my daughter off for Alateen, last night, I met a Newby Guy Alateen Sponsor in Training. Actually a real guy. I know that sounds stupid, but I do have a lot (I MEAN A LOT) of insecurities on that part.
The really good (I MEAN OMIGOD, REALLY GOOD) . . . female . . . adult Alanon Sponsor that runs the Alateen group is "training" him.
Asked the kids what they thought about me doing this. They okayed with the Caveat that I could never be involved in one of their groups. Good, and Good by Me, too. So I even put the training date on the Calendar. That sort of makes it official in my mind.
Was asking daughter on the way to school this morning what she though of the New Guy. She looks over, and figured out what I was asking. "Oh he is a little wussy, too, Dad. Don't worry you can handle it."
Cool Kid.
Thank You, God for my daughter.

Good for you!
I volunteered to run a major cherity event at my workplace yesterday. I felt pretty good all afternoon.
Helping other people could help us take our minds off our own misery, and boost self-confidence.
You are too hard on yourself, look at all the things you have had the strength to do up to this point in your life. I don't see anything wussy around here dude.

I am wishing that there was a group like yours in our town.
Here's a thought....
Once you are up and running with this; How about a separate section on this forum that is just for teens. You could be a moderator....
