CT showed a pretty bruised brain. The pocket of fluid went down on the left side of his brain but increased on the right side. The neuro has decided against brain surgery at this time. He showed me the CT n told me that if the fluid increases then he will do the surgery. He told Jim that the alcohol has his brain very weepy like a wound. He explained it to him like his brain was a piece of steak. You have the grains of meat n then you add the meat tenderizer (alcohol) and it starts breaking down the meat (brain).

He has released him to drive short distances to and from work. He can go back on the 30th of Aug. Follow up CT scan in 4 weeks. If his brain n body absorb the fluid, this guy will be released from the neurological unit.

He also has an appointment with Drug n Alcohol. Neuro said he needs it! I've always agreed. Neuro also told him he needs to listen to what I say. After talking with neuro, they know everything, I'm ok with him being released to light duty work and we'll proceed on until we close up on this chapter of life.

Did Mr. understand what the neurosurgeon was saying about his brain going to mush?

I hope things improve for both of you and he gets the help he needs to repair body and mind.

As much as he could in the terms on how the Dr explained it.

When I was talking to them a couple weeks ago, they said that unfortunately, he is not the first or last to walk in in his condition with alcoholism on top of it. They see it a lot n it's unfortunate!!!

Sad - I think they know their brains are going to mush regardless of head trauma or not.

Ugg - now that I say that....I keep smoking cigis with some of the same knowledge...

When i read your post about the steak in the marinade analogy, i could relate.

all I could think of was a large brisket I had prepared in my crockpot, the meat was falling off the fork.

That's essentially what happens to the brain when it's marinaded with alcohol day in n day out.
