Question re: alcohol interolerance (all of a sudden)

My cousin has been a functioning alcoholic for quite some time. She's had DUI's but has managed to keep a job and sort of support herself. Her and I were talking and she mentioned to me that lately it takes her only a glass of wine or a glass and a half to get drunk whereas she used to be able to drink a bottle. I am concerned about that. I'm not asking for medical advise but could this be part of the progression of the disease?

SoulKat, I think that is a safe assumption. At least she is noticing it......

By the way, I love your avitar--It makes me nostalgic for my dear Smokey Joe, that I had several years age. I love the regular 'ole tabby cats!

My tolerance increased at the end of my drinking career. For me, tolerance went way up then way down.

I'm a recovering alcoholic. What she's going through is very common for active alcoholics and it may drive her to get sober. I don't think she's in anymore danger than just drinking (dangerous enough).

Hi soulkat, yes it sounds like her body has become intolerant. I suggest a trip to the dr and some tests. It's great that you are looking out for her. Hugs to you.

Yes, this is common and means your liver is no longer processing the alcohol. This is a very dangerous step in this progressive disease.

SK - yep, that's a symptom of the progression. If you want all the scientific gobbeldy-g*ok, the book, "Under the Influence" explains it very, very well for the layperson. There are excerpts from the book here on SR, but don't remember if they go into the progression in those...
