OT--New Floors!!

1 Attachment(s)
Hey, the new ceramic floors are coming along! They got a good bunch of them laid today, and by next week they should be done. I have a weird curved wall in my dining room, which makes laying the tile a little tricky--plus they have had to struggle with a few uneven spots in the floor. I think they did perfect prep work, though, and it is already looking very cool.

Just so you can sorta get the effect, here is a "before" picture, which shows my former dining room carpet (which had a large piece cut out due to the refrigerator flood I had a year and a half ago. Note that the dining room table has not yet been uneffed, and I have all kinds of bins with stuff I'm collecting for donations or to be put away:

And here's the new tile, partially laid:

Aw, rats, looks like I shrunk it down a little too small. Trust me, it looks GREAT. And it will look even better once it's properly grouted...

Lexie,

So happy for you. It does look great!!!!!!! I also have some pics before it was grouted in. Do you believe I thought I would have a heart attack when they asked me what color grout that I wanted.!!!!!!!!!!!

It was like, d@mn, I picked out the tile, you figure out the rest. But there's choices. Do you want it to blend. Do you want it to really stick out?

It is looking great, and I also really love your windows!!!!!

wicked 07-28-2013 08:29 PM

Yes! The tile is going down and will be grouted.
I love those windows too!
And the buffet (that is the only word i can think of for that big piece on the left)
It looks European.

I got that buffet from my parents when they moved to Hawaii. They used to love to go "antiquing" and this was one of their finds. It's got a few broken pieces, something that stuck to the finish on top, and my cats have puked on it. One of my future goals is to get that, and an old china cabinet I got from them, refinished by a good furniture restorer.

The floor looks great!

I have done some tile work, and that looks like a very nice job they are doing!

Good looking tiles! In fact, they're so good looking that I think you're giving entirely too much credit to those who helped them get laid. ;)

Seriously, though, they do look great. I'm happy for you! It's so fun to transform your surroundings!

Isn't it great to re-do the floors? Makes a huge difference!! Enjoy :D

That will look great! And I am taking full responsibility but you have inspired me to purge all the stuff I have - and it feels fantastic! My son has promised to help me by having a garage sale so I can get rid of some bigger stuff too.

Of course there will be no laying of new floors in my little alum apartment (I believe the carpeting is from 1970 or something) but you know, right now, just getting rid of stuff feels so darn good! The space I'm getting is amazing!

That's exciting, Lexie!! I'm happy for you...and jealous--my uneffing isn't going too well.

ok. THAT place looks a LOT less scary than what I was putting together from the storyline. :) :)

A LOT less scary.

And we used to live in a 50 year warehouse in South Dallas. Deep Hood. Not talking "remodeled lofts," either. :)

Yeah, have fun.

OMG, my SIX cats would go nutso for this.... for everyone to have their own beds?? :faint:

Love the floors too! I spent another good portion of this last weekend "Un-effing" more of my house too. I organized parts of my pantry & am going through all of my books and movies for the THIRD time to get them better organized and down to stuff we really need/want. I also organized all of my exercise/yoga equipment/videos/etc...... I will literally have zero excuse not to workout soon. :bundance
