What's ironic is that one of our favorite shows is "American Greed". I'm at work right now just giggling my butt off. Its so unreal and I will have some good stories once I'm out of this.

I do not know what the total is of the money I have given away,

Now, I must remember not to give any more away.
It builds resentments on both sides.
(In my case anyway, resent me, but need me, otherwise they would
have to DO something for REAL.)

I watch that show all the time!
It is a great show.
Usually they catch the bad guy?
Maybe I am thinking of another show.
I just saw one, where a woman would marry older men,
actually give them medication to keep them "docile".
And then empty out their bank accounts.
These people, some of them, have no conscience.

money can't buy me love (hey that's a song) or happiness.
but it makes it much easier to survive comfortably. Would he help you to the the tune of giving you 10K? if he actually worked? Would he take care of you and support you if you were sick and unable to work? could he shoulder the financial obligations? would he help you support your son? pay loans off?
you can stop the bleeding and start the scab forming today. no more gas $$, no more freebies, you can make him uncomfortable enough to seek another way to exist. practice saying NO with a smile.

I don't know if you are in Al Anon or trying to recover in another way but it sounds like solid first step work to me about how your life has become unmanageable
