My wife lost her battle.
I knew that if she didn't stop drinking that she was on the road to an early death, but I figured that she still had several more years and several more chances before then.
She was on the couch this morning and I though she just fell asleep there like she does 50% of the time. When I checked on her after a bit, I couldn't find a pulse or a breath. After a 911 call, CPR and paramedics working on her for over an hour, they pronounced her dead.
I was numb for most of the morning, but now I'm crying whenever I see something of hers, her house shoe under the couch, the wedding ring they took off before they took her away.
My oldest son is feeling a lot of the same feelings I do. Sadness, anger, relief, guilt all mixed together. Feeling like we could have done something more and knowing that we couldn't, that it was in her hands.

I am so sorry! Just terribly sorry for you and your son! I know you are in shock.
I lost my mom 3 years ago to alcoholism. So I know what your son might be feeling anyway. Lots of mixed, overwhelming emotions. And the guilt...
You and your family will be in my thoughts today...

Oh my dear Wantabe,
I am so, so sorry for your loss. You have my support and my prayers as you and your family navigate this time of sorrow.
I pray that she is alleviated of her pain and now in place where peace surrounds her.
With sympathy,
MamaKit

How lucky she was to have the two of you in her life.
Prayers for you and your son.
