Why are so many roofers alcoholics/addicts?

Sorry, cracking me up, but it is so very true! We've already received numerous class lectures on this subject! Life is scary any time we have to rely on someone else and put so much trust in their hands.
Just think, if a physician limited his practice to alcoholics, he could perform brain surgery AND proctology at the same time!
The only other alcoholic I know in my immediate family was a roofer. All the guys he worked with drank. He quit drinking, joined AA, and now specializes in renovating churches (he's real good at steeples, but prefers working on pews...).
After I bought our home, as soon as I had money, I had a contractor install a new metal roof. It may be the only time I have a contractor with a crew on my property, and sure enough one of the guys showed up too hung over to work one day (and that was on the days that anyone showed up at all...). But so far the roof is perfect and beautiful...

father and son team hung and rung
the last roofers I had do a tile roof for me
were a father and son team
they showed up most days hung and rung
I was sober at the time
it was sad watching father and son together in their disease
they wanted a front on some monies before the job was done
then didn't make it back to work for a couple of days
I understood why
but
I had a job that required an almost perfect attendance
I actually made it to retirement -- 32 years on the same job
a miracle considering how much I drank (especially towards the end)
they kind of put up with me because I had so many years in
and yes
we all worked outside far away from any supervision
the beer was flowing most all the time
