AlAnon "friends"
I had a funny realization after an AlAnon meeting last week, and wanted to share it with all of you. It was a particularly great meeting, with some powerful shares.
When I got home my RABF asked about my meeting. I told him how great it was. Then I told him how I really look forward to my meetings. I feel after 4 months I have friends there. I truly look forward to seeing them each week. I appreciate how supportive they are. Then it hit me........
I know almost NOTHING about them!!!! I don't know anyone's last name (with the exception of my sponsor). I don't know what anyone does for a living. I don't know where anyone lives. I don't know who has kids, unless they have shared about kids. I don't know everyone's relationship status.
That realization made me laugh out loud. Where else does that happen?! I think that's part of the beauty of AlAnon. None of that stuff matters. We're all there to share our experience, strength, and hope. And people truly care...even if they know nothing about you!

I came to the same realization about Al-anon one year when I sat down to write out Christmas cards and realized that I had no way of mailing them, as I didn't know anyone's last name! :rotfxko
But they were still my best friends!

Yeah, that was pretty cool.
All of them telling me their favorite phrases.
"You are only as sick as your secrets."
"[Hammer], [Mrs. Hammer] is not your problem."
"Guess we will have to put that in God's hands."
On and on, right around the room.
Now I am memorizing the whole 12 steps and 12 traditions, so I can have a "meeting" while driving down the road to customer sites.
Seems safer than texting.
