20 things ive learned
What ive learned here
1. Alcoholics are truly selfish
2. Its about you not the alcoholic.
3. Recovery is a two way streak
4. When they are ready . They will
5. Dont count on recovery to be imediate
6. Boundaries are put in place to protect you. Not the alcoholic.
7. If you have to ask if your family member or friend is an alcoholic. 99% of the time they are.
8. Your story is different but its exactly the same
9. Trust and love has a very loose meaning in an alcoholic relationship.
10. We are all entirely effected by our loved ones drinking.
11. Children catch on quicker than we want to believe.
12. Theres no such thing as managing an alcoholic like an alcoholic cannot manage their drinking.
13. Sobreity is the first step but a program is a lifelong commitment to step one.
14.alcoholics are addicts. No if ands or butts. Its a drug.
15. Addicts can and sometimes do substitue one drug for the other
16. Alcoholism and adultry go hand in hand like bread and butter. True to some.
17. We are all victims of abuse even if it is not physical.
18. Leaving to get the alcoholic to shape up rarely ever works.
19. The addict and the person are two sides of the same coin. Protecting the addict only hurts the person.
20. A drunk mans words are not a sober mans thoughts. They are just a drunk mans slurred words. A judgement from the mentally ill

This is a fantastic list! I really wish I knew that arguing with my XAH was like a judgement from the mentally ill. I could've saved hundreds of hours not defending myself to his ridiculous accusations and put downs.
