Hello, all. I my boyfriend was a very heavy drinker for several years before he quit cold turkey (3 weeks ago). How long before he feels normal again? He is taking a little under 3 mg of xanax a day for the withdrawal symptoms, but still claims to feel very strange.

Is he being monitored by a physician during his detox? I don't mean that someone is writing a prescription for Xanax, I mean is he being closely monitored? Detox is a dangerous time for the A, they need monitoring.

I can tell you that my (now) RABF was in a "fog" for a couple of weeks after a medically monitored in patient detox.

I felt strange for a LONG time after quitting drinking--I did feel quite a bit better after several weeks. If he's worried, he should see a doctor.
