different places-all of us
different places-all of us
I was just reading an emotionally laden post that was closed and probably rightfully so, so as not to cause hard feelings or say things, which as we all have lived with, that cannot be unsaid once out there. That has been my constant diatribe with my husband at the saner moments when we discuss feelings and solutions. But he came from a family of "say what you feel at whatever expense..." so it is often futile when I tell him that once it's "out there", an apology goes only so far as to erase the hurt or lessen the damage. Being drunk is no excuse for being mean. But my point for this thread is this: we are, all of us, so alike in our experiences, yet so different in where on this road to recovery we find ourselves. I read posts and feel eerily connected and as if someone else was living in my house with me and reporting events as they happen. And I read posts that are obviously full of strength and wisdom that come with working steps and living life with changed attitudes. Since we would all agree that as alcoholism is a "family disease", we are all suffering pains of differing natures all the time. But in the initial diagnosis, as well as during many "forked roads", often what we need is not the full disclosure of what lies ahead, because that may "freak us out", but just enough to get to the next destination. But quite often we just need a "water stop" and enough encouragement to keep our legs moving. I'm a runner and so often when I "know" I have several miles to go some well-meaning person along the trail will shout, "you're almost there". It's not true, but it's amazing how that can give me strength. So, to all us: "We're almost there!"

Excellent post McTired, excellent reminder. I get so much from reading others' experiences or perhaps someone will pose a question that I've been wondering about myself. I learn alot. I can be grateful to not have gone down some of the roads, fearful of what I may still encounter. Your post reminds me not that I'm "almost there", but just don't freak out, just get to the next destination.

Thanks McTired,
Yes, we're "almost there!" Isn't that what recovery and SR is al about? Encouraging someone else along the way?

((((McTired))))
When I first joined here..someone from the board...I'll not name a name wrote to me the following:
The road I walk is not of my making.
I will walk, and stumble, and cry and then I will get up again
And Walk On.
I see people all around me, vague images, silvery,shimmery..moving in tempo with me
Walking ahead, some behind
All in the same direction. One falls, we help her up.
And when I fall, there are hands of every color reaching for me..To help me up.
Anyway, maybe that will help someone new here like it did me.
