Don't regret regret

Betcha thought I mistyped, eh?

Actually, I found a fascinating talk on Ted.com about regret that I believe is worthy of being shared here, since regret is a common theme on this forum. Enjoy!

Kathryn Schulz: Don't regret regret | Video on TED.com

“The point isn’t to live without any regrets. The point is to not hate ourselves for having them.”

I really needed that today. I was filled with regret and shame for choices I've made and the way I've been reacting lately.

Thank you.

Funny how things happen; I was searching Ted talks for innovative science teaching practices. I think I needed it today, too!

TG, thanks for the post. I watched it last night after yoga, second class woohoo, and really liked it. Good advice for almost any emotion. Experience it, learn from it and then let it go.

Interesting that you posted this today, because lately I've been thinking about my current age (62) and the regrets I *don't* want to have when I die. So, am I allowed to just forget about any past regrets, but shine some awareness on future regrets I'm not willing to accept?

Those would be things like:
--I don't want to regret accommodating my life to alcohol
--I don't want to regret letting my attachments buy my future freedom (I am reluctant to sell my current house for sentimental reasons--even though economically, selling makes the most sense, and I know I would have a far more adventurous life without the ball and chain of this mortgage)
--I don't want to regret not giving my all to the "me" I think I can be

The past is the past and I don't regret anything. But I only have a limited number of years left to be sure my life is well lived. I don't want to get to the end and regret any unfinished business.

Thanks for the link. I never thought of it that way. It was a good thing to watch. Thoughts for the night (and probably for a while let's be honest!)
