So this is what it looks like on the other side...

I was my daughter's cheerleader this morning when she competed in a triathalon. My son in law surprised us this morning at 5:30 am by meeting us at the house to come cheer for her. He was away for the weekend for a bachelor party and ended up leaving early so he could come to the race. All I kept thinking as I walked around seeing al those husbands/dads/boyfriends was how my husband would have wanted to have been there, would have had a terrible time waking up and caused us to be late, been incredibly hungover or still partially drunk and made the whole morning about him and his needs. My son in law is so different. I asked him how his weekend was. He said great. They had so much fun. They went bar hopping, played golf, went to a local brewery, had a great dinner, hung out at the casino. "Everyone was responsible and no one got crazy drunk." You mean you can have a weekend with friends that does not consist of seeing how much beer you can consume in 48 hours?
I am so happy for my daughter to have been blessed with a husband who is not obsessed with alcohol. Someone who has a positive outlook on life. I feel like she dodged a bullet. She does have to deal with her father's health issues and my occasional codie relapses. But she seems to have made a great choice in her partner and has ended the crazy cycle.
One of a mother's greatest moments is realizing her children are happy!

Reading this gave me goosebumps! Thank you so much. It is one of my biggest worries with my son. It's great to hear this. I have a long way to go still, he is only 3.
