my older brother comes back home at least once a week (Monday at midnight after work for example) totally wasted drunk.

He get's drunk twice a week usually 6-7 hour drinking sessions with his friend......

I know he says it's because he's not happy with his life......and I know something in particular is bothering him he won't tell us.

He refuses to admit he has a drinking problem and tells us every time he's only going to be out for an hour then tell's us he had a "couple of drinks" when he is clearly wasted.

I take it there is nothing we (family) can do until he hits rock bottom in his mind?

Did you used to get wasted with him? Why are you obsessing over his drinking habits? IMHO I would leave him alone and focus on you. With love.
