Confused and trying to understand...

Not really sure why the two of you think spending an hour with an addiction specialist/marriage counselor, where you give the short version of your history together, would entertain the notion of telling you what is best for you after an hour. (or 40 min)

I think therapy is more about understanding the couples relationship over time and guide the couple into coming to their own decisions.

My exH and I went to more than one counselor. It was truly amazing how he managed to manipulate them too. It wasn't until the 3rd counselor that we found someone who could see beyond his tricks and lies.
SHE was the one who helped me to find my own way. And I thank god every day that I was finally able to listen, and to take action to make a better life for myself and for my sons
That's my experience - counselors aren't perfect - they are human and some make mistakes. Others are a gift.
