It was truly a blessing that both of the alcoholics in my life were at their very best today. This is the first time in two years that Spicoli has been sober on Christmas. He actually spoke at a 6AM meeting this morning. I was proud of him. And he was right pleasant when he dropped by here today. The best part of this is that he is truly happy to be having a healthy, sober Holiday season. That was miracle one.
Miracle two was how extraordinarly pleasant my mother was today. If I didn't know better, I would swear she was visited by three ghosts last night. She really got into her Christmas gifts and seemed to be genuinely happy to be around her family. This is not her usual style. She's usually grumpy on Christmas and dropping nasty comments here and there.
I feel very blessed that both of these people are tapping into the best parts of themselves. They are so much more pleasant to be around when that happens.
I'm so joyful, that I don't even care that I discovered that I had a flat tire when I went out to take my mother home tonight. My son took her home instead and I will just call the road service guy tomorrow.
