A New Pattern....Pat myself on the back....
 

I want to pat myself on the back, I don't do enough of that. Yesterday my son called me (not my alcoholic, just my adult son) feeling frustrated about his current job situation. This doesn't happen often, so I listened to his frustration, validated his feelings, encouraged him to remain positive. During the call, he outlined the solution he is planning to implement. He doesn't really like the solution, its not perfect, but it will move him closer to where he needs to be. I agreed the solution was not perfect but a logical next step. At one point I told him, "I don't have an answer, you know as much as I do about what to do". As we ended the call, I believe that he felt better.

I am proud that I didn't offer a solution, act like I know what to do next, take the problem on as mine, or hang up and worry about if he would be ok. I was really able to just listen, and let him be the adult. Good job Rose! Progress. Thanks for letting me share.
