Whoo-hoo!! Found a counselor, just for me!!!

:a122: and he specializes in addiction!!!

We just chatted on the phone for 10 minutes re: my situation, the divorce, my denial, al-anon, etc... And it was amazing! He "got it." I'm so freakin' excited to sit and talk with him some more.

I'm going to be traveling for work all next week, but am set to see him the following Tuesday. I can't wait!

This is the extra boost my recovery needs.

Thanks for letting me share!
Shannon

I needed a therapist as much as I needed Al-anon. Those that have an understanding in addiction just get it. Mine has a DD who is an addict so she practices what she preaches and having that hands on experience gives her a level of understanding that has to be so much higher than the run of the mill therapist. May your new therapist give you the strength and wisdom to find the answers you need.

Best money I have ever spent. It has been worth every penny!

When you can find a therapist that asks open-ended questions AND listens AND understands addiction.... WIN!

It was expensive. It was worth it. I wish I had kept searching for a therapist when I wasn't in crisis mode. That would have been better, and saved years of agony from stupid decisions. Unfortunately / fortunately, this is the first one I've found worth her salt.

I just finished. It cost me $825 for 8 sessions. I have no insurance for it, so I worked harder, and will continue, to pay it off. Let me repeat: it was worth it!

Good for you, GB! Just knowing there's help waiting for you is enough for awhile!

I too found a therapist specialising in addiction, in fact I found her for stbxah (being the typical codie that I am), who refused to go after exactly 1 session. So I started going to her. I can say in hindsight that going to Individual counselling really helped me make the necesssary changes.

Some sessions were tough but I forced myself to be brutally honest and tried not to be defensive about my actions..

good luck GettingBy - hope you get what you need from these therapy sessions..
