And...compared to what I was making at my little hospital, starting pay is $3.00 more an hour! I see more finger bling in my future!

What awesome news! You go girl!

Keep us posted on the new job...are you still going for the national HIT certification? I am diligently working my HIT workforce training program in my state - getting lots of billers & coders upgrading their skill set. So exciting!

Oh yes, I will take the testing for national certification. This new job will help I am sure! I'm studying and still working through coding exercises we didn't have time to do in classes while I was still in school. My old instructor sent me the entire answer key (I have the old 2008 book) so I could finish them up!

Ideally I'd love to move into a coding position.

Actually I'm starting out doing records assembly (at a large medical center), which then gets passed onto the records analyst, which then gets passed onto the coders! Confused yet?

I imagine they will also find other areas they can use me in. They are converting to electronic health records the 9th of November, and then all the old paper-based records have to be scanned.

Methinks that is job security for awhile.

Nope, I understand completely...(psst. I'm a surgical admin..but I don't work for the hospital, I work for the med. school which works in conjunction with the hospital..I have responsibility for the CC and surgery older med students)

i hope you enjoy it...at least you will not be bored....our scrubs are dark navy for the Attendings and green for surgery and OB-gyn residents and baby- blue for medicine. the torquise are for the neighboring hospital...did you know it is a big faux pas to wear different hospital colors at other hospitals???

congrats on your job! Medicine/heath care is one of the few spots that is currently thriving. you will do great...but the fur-children will be lonely???

So exciting - a new beginning. Seems like it's a recession-proof career, too. So happy for you.
