Codependent No More

---by Melody Beattie.

I finally got a copy of this at the library.

What a complete eye-opener!

Whoever suggested this to me: THANK YOU!!

I will pay it forward now and suggest to each and every person reading this thread to get a copy of this book. I'm not kidding. It's wonderful!

I feel like Ms. Beattie wrote this especially for me. It's that personal.

WOW!

Wait til you get to "Beyond Codependancy" and "The codependant's guide to the 12 steps"
She's very good at what she does. So glad you're getting so much out of it!

Amazing book, huh? It definitely changed my life. I wouldn't have had the strength and self-respect I've had over the past couple of years if I hadn't have picked up that book.

That's funny, I just bought that book on Sunday. I kind of read it years ago but I was still too much in denial to see how it applied to me. Now its like WOW.

You are right, this book is great.

Are those more books by Melody Beattie? I looked all over my "Codependent No More" and did not find these as Chapter Titles, so I assume these are more books? If so, I must put them on the Hold List at the Library!

Please advise.

Kitty,

I just did an engine search, and YES!! Indeed, there are more books to read. I will do just that.

I appreciate your guidance and understanding! :day6

Yeah, they are other books by her. I saw them at the bookstore Sunday but stuck with just getting one to make sure I liked it. I can see new purchases in my future.

Codependent No More is probably the best book I ever read. Saved my sanity.

True for me. It's the most important thing I ever read. And I keep re-reading it. I haven't read the one for the 12 steps, maybe that's my job for the weekend.

And like someone else said upthread - I didn't get it the first time I read it. But I waited about five years and then OMG.

I started to read it 6 years ago... I haven't picked it back up again. I'm working towards it. I suspect that when this student is ready - the teacher will appear. The eyes and ears will open and I'll finally learn!!

I firmly believe you are all right that it's a good book, and I could learn so much from it... I'm just not ready!!

We all have to travel down our own road, at our own pace!

Co-Dependent No more, Beyond Co-Dependency, Co=Dependent's 12 Steps and the New CoDependency are all on my required reading list.

I've read, reread and reread all of them. Most are highlighted, bookmarked and dog-eared.

There are also the accompanying Daily Readers-The Language of Letting Go and More Language of letting Go. Same as above-highlighted and dog-eared......

When I need a boost, kick in the a$$ or whatever, I pick up any one of these books and start reading...again. It sure helps....

Funny, I was just thinking, I will have to get my own copy and not just the library's because there are several passages I'd like to highlight or dog ear or highlight AND dog ear!!

I'm almost finished with my first pass of the book, then I'll go back and do the exercises. and read it more slowly.

LOVE it.

I love the Language of Letting Go. Read it daily.

And I've read Codependent No More numerous times...its one to read and re-read.

Second (or third) the recommendation for "Language of Letting Go". Daily reader (much like Al-Anon's "Courage to Change".....) I can always turn to it when I need a small dose of Melody's wisdom!

I buy everything I can find by her.
This is actually what made the biggest difference in my life. Although I think it did because I read "Codependent No More" and "The Twelve Steps for Codependents" before that one.

Thanks, Lillamy. I just put this one on hold at the library along with "The Twelve Steps for Codependents".
