Intervention in NYC for my dad, help please!
Hello all,
My family and I are in the beginning stages of planning an intervention for my father. He is a long time alcoholic and is in a lot of denial about his problem right now. I am two years sober and my mother has been working a good alanon program lately and we want to offer my dad help, let him know that we love him and want him to get healthy.
I'm wondering if anyone could provide any assistance in terms of finding an interventionalist in New York City. When my family staged an intervention for me, they didn't have an interventionalist and the lack of having a professional present was a big mistake in my eyes.
Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated!

I agree that it's best to have a GOOD, experienced professional involved if you want to try an intervention. I would think there would be a few in a place like NYC.
You might try checking with the better rehabs in the area. They may be familiar with some.

My family did an intervention on me 20 yrs ago after
I tried to end my miserable life with a hand full of pain
pills. My husband tried to take me to the hospital to
get my stomach pumped without sucess. I had thrown
up most of the stuff in my system and told him I was
fine.
Because he and his parents didnt know what to do about
my actions, they called the hospital for answers. Since I
wasnt willing to go to the hopital with them, they were
instructed to get a court order from the judge to have me
taken in for evaluation because I tried to harm myself.
Sooooooo.
The police arrived to take me to a facility called Parkland
Hospital here in Baton Rouge which had a phyciatric ward
on the first floor where i spent the first nite there.
The next day i was evaluated passing all the physciological
test and the results came out as having problems with alcohol.
So the next 28 days I spent in Silkworth ward to learn about
my alcoholism before i was set on the path of recovery living
a day at a time without drinking.
I used that knowledge and the tools provided to me for the next
20 yrs helping others still suffering with addiction by sharing my
own experiences strengths and hopes of what it was like before
during and after alcohol.
I am still sober living a happy joyous life today.

Check out the resources on Debra Jay's website. I don't think there are interventionists listed, but there are treatment centers there, and maybe if you call you can get a good referral.
