Question in terminology detox vs rehab?
Terminology question? Are rehab and 'detox' the samething? Or is detox exactly what it says, someone spends a few days detoxing their body. Or are rehab and detox interchangable?
One of the problem one's alkie/recreational drug buddies went into detox as he says. Of course he did it for health reasons and not because he has a problem or hit a bottom. Hasn't woke him up yet.

((Quest))) - detox is usually a medically supervised way of getting through the initial withdrawals. It usually lasts about a week. Rehab is often offered after detox. I think a "normal" stay is for 28 days, though some last much longer, others not as long because insurance won't cover it.
Detox doesn't deal with the mental aspects, so much, of getting off whatever substance you're on...Rehab does that, and gives you tools of recovery.
Neither is a "cure" and the A has to really want recovery more than anything else in life to get it (I'm an RA). It's when we get back into the real world, and deal with "life on life's terms" that we either work recovery, or we go back to the old ways of dealing with life - using/drinking.
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

When my xah went into detox it was a few days and he moved out of that and into a rehab program. They were different things.
For him, the detox was a medically assisted process of getting the alcohol out of his system and the rehab was education and strategies on ways to stay sober and cope with other issues if there were any.

I went to a detox facility for 6 days. Mine medically supervised my detox, made sure I had plenty of healthy food to eat, had AA meetings and and classes to teach coping skills. I call it a mini-rehab because you do get a taste of what rehab would be like, but in a shorter timeframe. Afterward, instead of inpatient rehab, I did the IOP (intensive out patient) program for three weeks.
