should I continue?..........

Wrong Bus
A drunken man gets on the bus late one night, staggers up the aisle, and sits next to an elderly woman.

She looks the man up and down and says, "I've got news for you. You're going straight to hell!"

The man jumps up out of his seat and shouts, "Man, I'm on the wrong bus!"

How can you tell you're at an Alanon meeting?

Someone spills their coffee and everyone gets up to clean it up.

Humor is the most powerful sword of the warrior.
It is a double edged sword however
and can cause wounds
that do not ever completely heal.

I think the ability to laugh at ones self
is a powerful ability.

But I've also seen people use 'humor'
to hurt others.
I like when they cross my path.
*wicked grin*

I think it's one of the most courageous things ever
being able to stand up and say
'hey, that's not funny'
as to being indicative
of the depth of one's character.

I'm sorry, I am LMAO at ALL of these jokes.

I work in a job that often requires me to deal with horrific acts human beings inflict upon each other. If it weren't for gallows humor, I don't know how I could do it. So, yeah, I find AA jokes funny, Al-Anon jokes funny. And I don't mind it when it's a joke about the other group, either.

About the only time I'd find the joke UNfunny would be if it were someone who had already made it clear that they thought all alcoholics were weak-willed idiots with a death wish or that partners of alcoholics are drama queens and professional victims. If such a person then proceeded to tell a joke illustrating their demented point of view, yeah, THEN I might feel offended--because it would be intended derisively.

Just my own two cents. I think laughing at ourselves (and at each other, in a spirit of fun) is healthy.

It's resentment. Nothing more, nothing less. Goes back to the people pleasers not people pleasing thing. My 2 cents.

I"m sorry you were offended, if my AH said something like that I'd probably be very pissed off too, mainly because NONE of this had been funny to me. How funny is it when your husband pees himself? It's not. It's sick and disgusting.

It's also called secondary wounding
Secondary Wounding - Blaming Mental Health or Personality | PTSD Forum

I've struggled with this also-being the butt of jokes regarding something that utterly traumatized me. It's horrible, I go into blinding rages, but I have PTSD.

I hope you recover soon, feel better soon.

Here's the only al anon joke I know:
What does a codie see right before death?
The alcoholics life flashes before her eyes!

Maybe it is just me.. but if you are strong in your commitment to your program and Al-anon, I don't see how a joke would be so triggering?

People use humor as a coping tool.

I know tons of 'bar' jokes even though I know how horrible alcoholism is.

Doesn't mean disrespect at all to me.

barb, have I told you lately that I love you?!

Ok, ok - I see there are many facets to this topic, and a few good laughs came out of it. And some jokes I can tuck in my back pocket for later, if I decide to be hurtful in return. I suppose I may be sensitive that 100 days into our programs and he's already telling me jokes about mine. I think that's asinine and inconsiderate. But maybe its also a way to see just where his head is at.

Thanks all - maybe we should start a AA & Al-Anon joke thread...I could use more material!
