I can't BELIEVE I did that...
 

My AA friend and I went up to NYC today to go see American Idiot on Broadway. We were both all excited (neither of us goes out much) and we had a great time driving up to the train station, yakking on the train, walking the (cold!) streets of NYC to the restaurant I'd made reservations for. The train was on time, we got to the restaurant plenty early, had a fantastic dinner, left the restaurant in plenty of time.

We excitedly hand the usher our tickets, only to be told, "Um, wait a minute, these are for NEXT Saturday."

Can you say, OMG???

It's true. I'd forgotten which weekend I'd bought tickets for.

Naturally I felt like the REAL American Idiot. My friend was very cool--she said, hey, it's been a fun evening, let's do it again next weekend!

So I spent nine hours, gas money, and train tickets to have dinner tonight.

When we got back to the parking garage at the train station, my friend discovered SHE had lost the parking ticket, so we had to pay the maximum parking fee. (Heh, I accused her of losing it on purpose to make me feel better.)

I normally beat myself up for something like that, but we DID have fun, and sheesh, we've got the whole thing to look forward to again next weekend. What's to complain about? :)

Sometimes I amaze even myself.

Trust me, we were grasping at every way we could in which this could have been worse. And THAT, definitely, would have been worse!

yep, I have arranged a babysitter and taken a friend (who also had to arrange a babysitter) out to the theatre on wednesday to find that the tickets were for tuesday the night before, one night only performance, d'oh! it was much more local, less money and she was lovely about it and we had a great night going out for some food instead, but has firmly taken over any organisation for future events!

Now you have something to look forward to next weekend, plus you can try a different restaurant, too!

Believe me, I've been in that situation, too. One time it was just a comedy club, so they charged us an extra 2 dollars each and let us go in. Another time it was a theater 2 hours away, where fortunately they had some seats available so let us trade (again with a fee). The other times we weren't so lucky.

I am SO glad it was a week early rather than a week late. The tickets are VERY expensive and, as the usher pointed out, are for AWESOME seats. (One of the numbers involves an aerial dance, and these will put it right in front of us.)

I'm so grateful my friend was such a good sport about it--AND that she can go next week (one of the advantages of being middle-aged and single, lol).

Heh, my first impulse was to argue that they sent me the tickets for the WRONG DATE. But then I realized--I have two three-day weekends in a row. This one and next one (our government offices close for Lincoln's b/d and Presidents Day). I knew I had bought these for a three-day weekend, and I simply forgot which one I had bought them for. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.)

I'd been feeling so proud of myself for having the train schedules printed out, the dinner reservations, the walking maps to the restaurant and theater, making triple-sure I had the tickets. But never checking the dates on the tickets.

Heheheh...

Consider it a successful dry run with a couple lessons learned... LOL!!
