Can I just say that I absolutely dread February?

Don't get too excited, wicked, I am sure it was the automated kind of phone call that I get. No one does use the phone anymore.

We have had 1-2 snow days a week here in NY...definitely a first, hopefully not to be repeated.

When I first saw this title - I thought the reference would be to Valentines Day. So far, no one has mentioned that... I am sitting here today thinking of some cool little gifts for my girls, but the RAH?! Ugh?! Can I just disregard the day completely like I did our wedding anniversary? Anyone else dread February for that reason, weird weather aside? I feel FORCED by commercialism to participate and I am resisting!

I have always used Valentines Day to buy candy for my children.
(blame my zodiac sign Aries, we supposedly indulge our children - lol)
then, go to kroger after the day and buy it all up at 75% off.
bwahahahahaha!

Totally a commercialized-made-up-by-the-card-flower-candy-jewelry-companies-pressure-people-to-spend-money kind of a day. Not even a damned holiday. Pfft, pretty annoying to me.

If I ever become king of the world, it's on my agenda.

No pressure here, a little "kid candy", and I'm good to go.

Thanks and God bless us all,
Coyote

You know, Tuffgirl, I was just thinking that about Valentine's day. Christmas, yeah there's a lot of commercialism, but there are enough of the traditions left to make it feel a little nostalgic and a celebration of more than just buying (drinking eggnog by the fire, making ornaments, baking cookies, singing carols...).

But Valentine's Day, it feels like it's just about buying cards, candy. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of togetherness. But then, I think I'm really letting the relationship with XAH color that; maybe I'd feel differently about the holiday if I'd had a decent BF: Married almost 10 years, together 16, maybe 2 special dates, flowers once. Once. Oh, I forgot the time we went to the bar with the rugby team. 3 Valentine's Day dates in 16 years. Woo. Don't even get me started on wedding anniversaries. Good lord, I must have loved that man.

Upside: DS and I are going to make Valentine's for the family and his school doesn't do the whole exchange thing. Or at least they didn't in pre-school. Should check that... But I figure that's a good antidote for the commercialism and puts some thought into the cards.

Another February upside: Another beautiful day in gorgeous AK. Clear blue skies; still fresh snow on the mountains, and it's SUNNY. I could sit here all day with a cup of coffee or cocoa in hand and just look out the window while pretending to read a book.

Hah! I didn't even think of V-day.
I'm with Coyote. Total crock of a "holiday".
I will not be participating.

This will be my first Valentine's Day alone in a LONG time, and I am actually looking forward to it.

I did buy a box of those candy hearts for myself at a gas station once, and had a grand old time munching them while I drove around doing my other errands.
I will probably buy something for the kitten, but that's about it.
