Wow. Really?
I just thought it was kinda along the lines of "if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it IS a duck"...meaning

if your 'person' acts like an alcoholic, sounds like an alcoholic; they ARE an alcoholic...no matter what kinda 'quack' they say. LOL.

My AH's favorite is...

"Everything would be just fine if you'd just shut up and be happy. You just don't like to have fun - you never have."

I shared that little gem with my girlfriends, and from that evolved my new nickname - The Party Pooper.

Don't ever invite me to your parties... I slay fun.

"If you only did what I told you all the time, you'd be happy and successful."

Umm, excuse me? I used to be happy and successful. What happened to that?
Oh, yeah. I listened to you.

Good riddance!

I am new here . Just found this site last night.
Some of these quacks really hit home : I have been told " You Drink Milk" LOL.

My personal favorite here is the " I love you drunk or sober " , just heard that one today from my AH .

I really think that there should be a 'warning' at the beginning of this thread to hit the 'rest room' first and empty bladder or you will have very wet pants before you are through even the first ten posts.

roflmao

This is so good. Over the years I have heard them all and then this last year when once again I got into a relationship with what again turned out to be a practicing alcoholic I have heard most of them.

One I hadn't heard, since I used to say it many years ago when I was still 'practicing' my alcoholism, and I heard out of the mouth of T:

"I'm not an alcoholic, I'm just a drunk once in a while, alcoholics have to go to all those damn meetings."

Sheesh, when I heard that one, that was it .................. I knew I could not be in a relationship with this man. Every red flag in my head was now flying and it was just too toxic for me. I did what I have told others to do, I RAN. And this man was my first love. I have even worn our initials on my arm for 46 years. Working now with a tattoo artist to somehow have a wolf's head tattooed over it.

I know that these responses of our As are really a sad testament to how far they are from reality but I/you cannot help but laugh at their 'warped, convoluted' thinking.

Thank you for starting this thread, it has been great for me!

Love and hugs,

This may seem a silly question but do alcoholics tend to talk a lot? I mean besides the usual quacking?

Growing up an only child and in the boonies no less, I'm naturally a quiet person. ABF on the other hand is a babbler. OMG blah blah blah blah blah.. Things are just not right in his world unless every second is filled with yammering. Some days are so bad that I have envisioned stuffing a rolled up sock in his mouth, but alas, I imagine he'd just continue to mumble around it.

Mine would go on, and on, and on, and on, etc.

And if I opened my mouth I'd get lectured about how I talked to much, and how everyone would respect me more if I followed his example, and only talked when I had to.
I stopped talking around him, and he didn't even notice, except when it meant that I wasn't saying "I'm sorry" perpetually.

I can't say that they all do... But mine did.

My personal favorite

" I only had 2 drinks. What is your problem?"

Oh maybe the fact that those 2 drinks where tumblers full of vodka

QUACK! (and I mean that in more than one way-both the verb and the noun)

OMG I am dying laughing! :rotfxko

I love this thread! It makes me laugh every time, and thank you all for that.

I got this one today. I still can't think of a response.

"what I owe amends to the girls for most of all is the introduction and perpetuation of non-stop turmoil and emotional drama in their lives. I can't make amends for this until it stops. Also, I don't think it will stop until I permanently separate myself from this marriage"

Well... the first sentence woulda been a great place to STOP. And btw, we've been separated for 4 months already. I removed them from the turmoil. They are my kids, not his (really, all mine). QUACKER!

No there's nothing wrong with you except that you always have to have alchohol in your bloodsteam at the expense of all else!

"I was like this when you met me." (WRONG!)

"I wouldn't drink like this if we had kids." (Thank God I never bought into that!)

"At least I'm REAL!!" (Real effed up, that's for sure!)

The only 3 I can remember; probably because they were on heavy rotation.
