Turning Failure Into Success

"A journey of a 1,000 miles begins with the first step"! :dance6: No matter what stage we're at in our road of recovery, it's still one step at a time......one day at a time! Sometimes we might feel like we're stuck......that we're not progressing as fast as we should......that we need to start all over again! Sometimes we feel like we're failures! But we have to tell ourselves we're NOT; we have gained the tools for our recovery. Life is a succession of moments, seconds and minutes. To live each one is to succeed. "Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." - Will Rogers. Have you hit a brick wall? Aim higher and jump over it. There are no failures on your road to recovery! Just stepping stones! It's YOUR road to recovery; that ONLY YOU can WALK! The secret of success is having the courage to begin in the first place.

Failure is only a fact when you give up. Everyone gets knocked down, the question is: Will you get back up? Do you think I can't. I don't want to. I'm feeling stressed, or I can. I want to. I'm feeling exhilarated. Think of yourself as a toy train. All toy trains de-rail now and then. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back on track. Everyone makes mistakes - the only people who never fail are those who never even try. Dare to soar - how successful you are is determined by your attitude. Like the eagles we have to move our wings to soar like an eagle. Have the courage to act on your dreams - leave behind you the internal forces that hold you back.

When you stop trying to change others and work on changing yourself, your world changes for the better. Things change for the better when we take responsibility for our own thoughts, decisions and actions. When you discover it's your choice and your attitude, things start to happen! Identify what you want and go for it. Risk a change, overcome fear and win. Accept the risk and then reap the rewards. Choice is a gift given to everyone. It is a powerful gift that can change your life. It's your choice - will you choose to be a victim or the victor? If you don't know where you are going how will you know when you get there? Your only limits are self-imposed. Venture forth into new horizons, even to places those around you do not have the courage to go. If you don't dare to begin, you don't stand a chance of getting there.

George E Allen had a great saying “People of mediocre ability sometimes achieve outstanding success because they don’t know when to quit. Most men succeed because they are determined to”. The following list are of people who didn’t know when to quit. Wouldn’t it have been a shame to humanity if they gave up earlier:

1.Henry Ford: his early businesses failed and left him broke five time before he founded the successful Ford Motor Company.
2.R. H. Macy: started seven failed business before finally hitting big with his store in New York City.
3.Soichiro Honda: began with a series of failures and fortunate turns of luck. He started making scooters of his own at home, before he started his own business.

11.Thomas Edison: teachers told him, he was "too stupid to learn anything." He made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb.
12.Orville and Wilbur Wright: battled depression and family illness before starting their bicycle shop that would lead them to experimenting with flight. After numerous attempts at creating flying machines, several years of hard work, and tons of failed prototypes, the brothers finally created a plane that could get airborne and stay there.

14.Oprah Winfrey: endured a rough and often abusive childhood as well as numerous career setbacks including being fired from her job as a television reporter because she was "unfit for tv."
15.Charlie Chaplin: was initially rejected his act by Hollywood studio chiefs because they felt it was a little too nonsensical to ever sell.
16.Harrison Ford: was told by movie execs that he simply didn't have what it takes to be a star.
17.Vincent Van Gogh: sold only one painting during his lifetime, and this was to a friend and only for a very small amount of money.

20.Charles Schultz: had every cartoon he submitted rejected by his high school yearbook staff. He was rejected for a position working with Walt Disney.
21.Steven Spielberg: was rejected from the University of Southern California School of Theater, Film and Television three times. He eventually attended school at another location, only to drop out to become a director. Thirty-five years after starting his degree, he returned to school in 2002 to finally complete his work and earn his BA.
22.Stephen King: had his first book, "Carrie", receive 30 rejections; finally causing him to give up and throw it in the trash. His wife fished it out and encouraged him to resubmit it.
23.J. K. Rowling: before she published the series of Harry Potter novels she was nearly penniless, severely depressed, divorced, trying to raise a child on her own while attending school and writing a novel. She went from depending on welfare to survive to being one of the richest women in the world in a span of only five years.
24.Jack London: his first story received six hundred rejection slips before finally being accepted. He would go on to publish popular novels like White Fang and The Call of the Wild.
25.Louisa May Alcott: was encouraged to find work as a servant by her family to make ends meet. It was her letters sent back home during her experience as a nurse in the Civil War that gave her the first big break she needed; and subsequently "Little Women" became famous.
26.Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: was often restless, leading to his dismissal from a position as a court musician in Salzberg. He struggled to keep the support of the aristocracy and died with little to his name.
27.Elvis Presley: Jimmy Denny, manager of the Grand Ole Opry, fired him after just one performance telling him, "You ain't goin' nowhere, son. You ought to go back to drivin' a truck."
28.Ludwig van Beethoven: was incredibly awkward on the violin and was often so busy working on his own compositions that he neglected to practice. His teachers felt he was hopeless at it and would never succeed with the violin or in composing. He composed some of the best-loved symphonies of all time......five of them while he was completely deaf.
29.Michael Jordan: tried out for his varsity basketball team during his sophomore year, but was told he was too short to play at that level.
30.Babe Ruth: held the World's Home Run Record (714 during his career), but for decades he held the record for strikeouts (1,330 in all). When asked about this he simply said, "Every strike brings me closer to the next home run."

How many times will you get up and continue doing your best to turn your failures into successes? Or will you give up, and believe what you have been told? When you feel you aren’t quite up to the task or start believing what people tell you, remember the people listed above. This is just a small number of thousands of successful people who “didn’t know when to quit”. :bday8

Success comes in all forms – it may not be fame, but that success is something only you can measure. Successful people do what unsuccessful people don't dare. When you expect success, your mind focuses on success. Be determined and don’t let the fear of failure hold you back. Confidence is feeling satisfied with who and what we are. Feeling healthy and feeling good about yourself is not a luxury - it's an absolute necessity. There is no such thing as luck. Success comes from actually doing it. Your life is not a rehearsal. Don't leave it without giving it your all.

Where do you find yourself at? Many of you have read my posts, and know that this last year I have been confined to a wheel chair and all my other problems......But we can never give up! "Yesterday is History, Tomorrow a Mystery, Today is a Gift, Thats why it's called the Present".

Love and Peace,
