OMG You Guys I Just Realized

OMG you guys I just realized prayer is a form of Detachment!!! The post about that Ted Williams story made me realize it. I saw his story and watched some of the footage and the first thing I thought was "Boy there's a relapse waiting to happen." Then someone posted about him and my first reaction was to say a prayer for him. It all makes perfect sense to me now! Why did I not realize this before?

I dont know, but it makes sense to me now too.
All the stuff I read about thich van nang (sp), it was about detaching.
all the walking and breathing and concentrating.
taking my mind off my imaginary control of the world and other people.
good god, i think i got it too!

cake time!

I love buddihst readings too Wicked...they are very in line with 12 step programs..letting go, detachment, taking life on life's terms, having an open heart. I am now reading One Breath at A Time..Buddihsm and the 12 steps..it's really good. And in case anyone thinks Buddihsm is a religion, it's actually a philosophy, again much like the 12 steps.
I started reading Buddihst literature before I got to Alanon, but found that there are so many similarities and they really complement one another..also yogic principles..the 12 steps didn't come outta nowhere!

Thanks Beth. I do not use Amazon.com anymore because they publish and sell pedophilia. I did, however, just place that book on hold at the library!!! THANK YOU!

Writing of the 12 Steps was also influenced by New Thought philosophies which were newly emerging

...you could always try the "Advanced Book Exchange," and I'm sure Borders as well as Barnes and Noble would have good online sites to use as well.

...L2L, thank you very might on your insight regarding prayer. You are right... I need to give G up to my HP, rather than focusing on his problems myself.

tjp,
i was very interested and went to some services here in southeastern michigan at the Unity Church. Marianne Williamson was sometimes there as the pastor.
Very big church with lots of 12 step meetings. It was nearly an hour away though.

New Thought Movement, I must learn more.
Thank you.

Beth

Thank you StarCat,
Advanced Book Exchange looks fantastic.
And goodness knows why I didnt think of Barnes and Noble and Borders.
Geez, I love to go to Borders and look around.
I love, love, love libraries and book stores.
I feel calm and at ease there.

Thank you tjp. But after Amazon was exposed for this particular book, I found out that was not the only one (I saw it with my own eyes on their webpage), so I decided to stop purchasing from them. Amazon also does business in other countries and in those countries, they sell child pornography where it is not illegal to do so. That too I saw with my own eyes on their Japan website.

It is against my morals and values to give my money to a company or person that promotes the harm of ANY children, regardless of that child's nationality. AND parents in the U.S. have ENOUGH difficulty raising and protecting their children without Amazon standing behind their "First Amendment right" to sell that ****.

Sorry everybody, this was not meant to be a thread about Amazon but I felt the need to defend my decision regarding this disgusting, controversial topic.

Marianne Williamson is from Houston (where I live) and she visits our Unity Church around Thanksgiving every year. She's an awesome speaker and author....sometimes I feel she's a little bit 'out there' but that's OK with me! She's got it goin' on, that's for sure.

Unity Church is definitely 'New Thought'... there are others. Here's a list of New Thought online reading you may be interested in: New Thought Related On-Line Books

zen is a form of Buddhism. Just like Tibetian Buddhism. Just like different sects of Christianity. They all sprang from one amazing guy and centuries later, there are lots of different takes on just exactly he was saying. The main difference between Buddha and Jesus is Buddha was just a guy. He didn't say he was God and neither do his followers. In fact, Buddhists believe we all are God and the process is to find our own Godness within.

Peace

Libraries and book stores (especially when there is a little cafe attached or near by where I can sit with a cup of tea or coffee, maybe a snack, and my 'new' book). Or a spot on a grassy lawn on a sunny day and a book while DS runs around yelling 'Watch this Mom! Look at this!'

Add in some new pens, a notebook, and highlighters and I'm a happy camper.

Is the cake angel food cake with strawberries?
