Happy Birthday Jessieandme !!!
I am so touched!
Thank you all for this nice surprise! I have tears in my eyes right now.
How did I celebrate? Well, I started my birthday the same way I have for many years now, like just another day. I did my Saturday morning chores of cleaning and laundry gathering and bill-paying. I am so used to no one really noticing. My daughter kept saying "Mommy, you shouldn't be doing that, it's your birthday." I smiled lovingly and kept doing. Of course my mental response was the old "HA! SOMEone has to do it..."
But this year things turned out to be truly special.
I didn't know what to expect of my AH, who is 3 months sober this Tuesday. He was at work, then we were to go to my mother-in-law's house for dinner. He has never taken the effort to get me a card, let alone a gift, and he doesn't have access to much money anyway.
Well, Mom had a lovely cake with my name on it, and my brother-in-law showed up too. They all sang to me, and I felt lucky to have such nice people in my life.
But the big surprise came when my mother-in-law handed me a package from a jeweler. My quiet husband turned around beaming, and said "that's from me."
My first response was "You had someone get me a gift?"
"Nope." he said, with a big grin. What was this? Pride on my husband's face?
Now let me tell you, as I suspect some of you will understand like no one else can. I didn't need to open it. It could have been a golden cockroach for all I cared. To see the pride and excitement in my husband's eyes just bowled me over! He was like a little boy, telling me how he had gotten it days ago and brought it to his Mom's house before coming home from work today. He especially was proud of the way he saved for it, and we all laughed when he mentioned "considering the way you always watch the money."
It was a beautiful watch, and I haven't had a watch for over a year since my last one broke. A perfect gift.
But the gift was already perfect before I opened it. One day at a time is tough, my friends, but some of those days can be so beautiful.

Aw! Now I have a wee tear in my eye
as well. What a great gift (and I'm not talking about the watch, but that is nice too).
I'm so glad that you were treated like a special person on your birthday. You deserved nothing less. Thanks for sharing an amazing moment in your life. We all need to hear the positive stuff as often as possible.
Peace,
Gabe
