I am agnostic, not a Christian, although raised one so these things are familiar to me.
However there are excellent points made. We are not the material things we hold dear, for one. The more we have, the tighter we hold onto them, and somehow, it seems, that is the prison--holding on to material things too tightly, because we know we can't truly own those things--we only get to hold onto them for awhile. We may have them in our posession, but they are not of us.
And when all that is removed, material wealth, things we take pride in that are superficial, job or social status, all we have left is those who care for us even when we are down and out, and the truth. No matter what religion we are, the truth is there for all to see.
Truth is my higher power in alanon.
