Have you....

I know this sounds kinda strange, but has anyone else tried to get their loved one on the show intervention? Yeah i tried, never heard back, they probably have sooooo many applications. Just curious if anyone else did this

I live in another country but I've heard of that show. It would be interesting, to launch an intervention on my ex to say the least! :)

It's strange that I ran across this thread as I'm watching the show Intervention right now at 10:45 p.m. central time. I find this show so close to reality and what I read on SR. I think just watching the show is educational.

Lol, i was just watching it too, I always wondered if i should have videotaped my XABF's antics when he was drunk and show it to him....wonder what he would have thought....guess it doesnt matter now. But Intervention is one great show to watch. It's like this website....reminds me i'm not alone in what i'm dealing with :)

You can hire a profession intervention specialist. It does not have to be televised.

Oh i know that, but i wouldnt waste anymore money on my XABF....free is good, he wasted enough of my cash")

I know someone whose family situation was being considered. Ultimately they decided not to go forward as it seemed more about sensationalism and less about getting the A some help.

The things they had to agree to - the incredible intrusion into every aspect of their private lives - made the $$ not worth it.

Ultimately, the family just wanted their loved one to choose sobriety. Just because someone is on the show does not mean s/he will get sober. I think it can occasionally give them some weird justification for their bad choices.

After being on SR and getting to know various people whose lives have been affected by addiction, I've come to think poorly of that show, because it seems to thrive on drama and supposed "happy endings", which never seem to last long. In my quest to "de-dramatize" my life, I've stopped watching Intervention (and other triggering shows like "A Baby Story"...ugh don't get me started about the crap that show perpetuates).

I actually videotaped my SRAH a couple of times when he was completely out of it (not during his scary angry phases, but only during his scary half-passed out phases), but I never did show him the videos (just never seemed right).

As far as the show intervention goes, I was thinking about it a few times too without ever seriously considering it though, because I am a very private person and so is my SRAH and his family and I wouldn't want my whole life shown on TV for everyone to see.

I never considered it.

For one thing, we are waaaay to boring.

People need a bit of drama and flare to pass muster on shows like that. I'm glad we lacked drama of that nature though. I've only seen one or two episodes. It was all so dang depressing.

Sounds like the wife came to her senses.

Funny, I've changed my criteria for "happy endings" in the last few years.

All of us here who either got sober, and or got out of alcoholic marriages alive, it has "ended well" for US. Active addiction is no longer under our roofs. :c011:

PS Welcome back Anvil, missed you.

When I used to live with my RAH ( who was not yet in recovery back then), I would watch & just cry & cry & cry. Sometimes he would watch it too (but I remember him minimizing addiction back then). I had hoped it would "trigger" something in him to get help. I also plotted how I might stage an intervention too by getting ideas.
