Hello

I'm new here. Little bit about myself. I'm almost 28, have a little boy who is 4. My boyfriend who i have been with for a year (but have been friends for 15) is about to go to in house treatment in less than a month for 30 days.

I just need some help or advice or words of encouragement on how to handle this, what to expect when he gets out etc. It will be the worst on my son, who ADORES him so much

My boyfriend is ready to do this, it is killing him and he knows it. He seeked out the help himself, and we have also been getting couselling together once a week together

Welcome to SR. You will find a lot of experience, strength and hope here.

It would be a good idea to read some of the "Stickys" posted at the top of the forum page. There is a lot of time-tested wisdom there that can help you get through this tough time.

As for you, have you considered going to Al-Anon? I know it can be tough when you have little ones at home, but some meetings offer babysitting. Don't knock it until you try it for a few times - I was originally wary of it but it came to be my lifeline.

It is hard to say what you can expect when your BF gets out of rehab. I'm sure someone else will come along here on this post to give you some better ideas.

Hi there and WELCOME to SR. This is a great place to be, with loads of support (and humour of various kinds) to be found.

If in person meetings aren't possible for you, there are also online Al-Anon meetings. I started with that before I went to IRL meetings and it helped me a great deal when I was stuck at home with a nursing infant and unable to get out of the house.

Keep posting and reading here. SR is always open!

I second the suggestion of Al-Anon. It's tough, but we really need to keep our helpful little noses out of our loved ones' recovery. It's possible to be supportive and encouraging without getting enmeshed in the minutae of their working their own program.

I don't know what's best for preparing young kids for a parent's (or the equivalent of a parent's) absence due to rehab. You might contact your b/f's rehab for suggestions--I'm sure this comes up a lot.
