Favorite Quotes

I love quotes that make me feel/think so thought it would be fun to share quotes that made an impact on you.

A good friend of mine shared this one with me tonight

“Watching you walk out of my life does not make me bitter or cynical about love. But rather makes me realize that if I wanted so much to be with the wrong person how beautiful it will be when the right one comes along.”

“Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength.”

This quote has made a real impact on me and I have this posted near my computer and phone - I read this bfore being tempted to return the call or respond to the emails from EXABF.

"Punching bags are for kick boxing classes.
Doormats are to make the entrance pretty.
None have my name on them."

Thanks to TakingCharge999 for these wonderful words of wisdom and inspiration.

Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't. Eleanor Roosevelt

In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility. Eleanor Roosevelt

We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face... we must do that which we think we cannot. Eleanor Roosevelt

Lol it was funny to read my own words on this thread. Thanks, Link!
These I like:

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.
Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)

Life is an adventure in forgiveness.
Norman Cousins (1915 - 1990)

Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.
Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900)

To err is human; to forgive, infrequent.
Franklin P. Adams (1881 - 1960)

So many great quotes, thanks for sharing. I needed this since my pain today is great.

Here is another good one someone shared with me.

"I don't know why we all hang onto something we know we're better off letting go.
It's like we're scared to lose what we don't even really have. Some of us say we'd rather have that something than nothing at all, but the truth is..to have it halfway is harder than not having it at all"

Thank you for the reminder of one of my favorite quotes of all time. I saw this on a teacher's desk once and it helped shaped who I am today.

Another one I love:

Deep in their roots all flowers keep the light. ~Theodore Roethke

I ran across that one when I was coming to terms with my daughter's alcoholism. It felt like it was affirming that she is the loving, sparkling girl who knows the truth; it's inside of her, and it will always be in there, even though it may be deeply buried.

"Don't put more effort into helping some one than they are willing to help themselves" unknown SR (wish I could remember who said this)

I like this one. A while back, when I joined Al Anon, I heard a lot about my needs should be met, and my needs and more my needs.
Then somewhere, not sure where or from whom I got this, or if I read it, but I learned "No one is put on the planet to fulfill our needs, it's no one's job, it wasn't my ex's job to address my needs. It was my job to fill my needs"

I was always told "Find someone who can fulfill your needs" And I believe it and kept looking, it was a bottomless dream

Not sure if I got these from here or not.. or who even said them.

"You are always living the life you create. If your life does not feel right, create something better"

"Change is the essence of life. Be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become."

There is an ecstasy that marks the summit of life, and beyond which life cannot rise. And such is the paradox of living, this ecstasy comes when one is most alive, and it comes as a complete forgetfulness that one is alive. ~Jack London

Well, I said it on SR, but it's not mine. A social worker friend of mine told me that.
