Living a Juicy, Succulent Life

To hell with practical.

To hell with serviceable.

To hell with won't show dirt.

I just bought a great, big, swede couch in FLAMING PURPLE.

Screw you, inner voices that tell me that all I could hope for was a life of camouflage - practical browns, serviceable beige. Always blend in - don't be bold - don't live brave.

PURPLE PURPLE PURPLE PURPLE PURPLE.

(Anyone who has ever lived in a dysfunctional home will understand the whole beige/brown/serviceable conversation above). PURPLE!

Good for you! When I tossed ex-abf out, I repainted the inside of the house, nice bright colors. No more drab brown, dark green or beige! I shook the whole joint up, and, I must say it really lifted my spirits!

Glad to hear that you are doing something for you!

VERY COOL!!!

I want to dress like my 9 year old daughter - looking like the diva she is -

Purple tights, plaid skirt, leopard print sweater - but please you have to brush your teeth.

The freedom to live outloud!! I love that!

Thanks for making me smile DM

I don't mind the principle of browns and beiges.

But when I was growing up, we could never have anything colorful. My goodness, what would people think? A PURPLE couch? Why, how dare you think such a thing!

It was always something that wouldn't show dirt or wear. We never decorated - no pics on the walls, no decorative items, nothing like that. That would show life and individuality and that was a BIG no-no in my house. And now that I am divorced and trying to find out how to life alone, I don't have to get something gender neutral or something a guy would like. Screw that - I got something girly and lovely and MINE. Secondhand but mine!

PURPLE! And just wait until I find a gorgeous throw and some decadent pillows.

From "Succulent Wild Woman" by SARK:

"Choosing succulence is a deliberate act of personal revolution. It means waking up! Embracing your true self, studying your patterns, and letting out your most alive self."

Succulent meaning juicy or rich with interest.

Very good word.

PURPLE is my favorite color as well! I remember when I was finally buying things for my own place , my first place after A and I separated. It was a dingy, tiny little townhouse that leaned to the left. I decorated with bold and vibrant colors - all the purples and greens that I loved and that fed my soul.

I felt such peace and serenity when I looked around and realized it was MINE decorated by ME and only there to please ME.

It was perfect.

Have always loved purple in all its shades to lilac. Just got new outfit for grand daughter's wedding and it is a cross between mulberry and purple, now need new pewter coloured shoes to match bag and hat and I am ready to go party.

If you haven't been allowed to express yourself in colour before, go for it now....in a blaze of glory.

God bless

I love purple too....Enjoy!
Of course I still love my brown leather sofas but...I think the next set will be either purple or red. My most favorite and fun couch ever was a very intricate traditional paisley print with mostly teal & mauve coloring.

Snap! When I moved into my own place I went out and bought a gloriously purple sofa and chairs with big curvy lines and a big bold fabric print cushions to match - AXH would have HATED it!! No more masculine squared minimalism for me!
Isn't freedom wonderful!

purple and green, my favorite colours, my wedding dress was a deep plum colour with a shocking pink net underskirt.

stbxAH is all about straight lines and beige, cream, magnolia, mushroom, taupe, light brown in all its myriad drabness, show-home uniformity, I call it "safety beige". I fought against it at the time and don't live in safety beige anymore, the neutral pallette I am developing as a base is muted greens, with wonderful organic patterns in fabulous reds and purples and greens around me.

I always have one pink wall in my house, lots of others colors too, but I always have to have my pink wall, and it is bright pink too.
So whenever I feel blue I stare at my pink wall. It helps!!!

My childhood home was really nicely decorated, but brown and biege, occasional pale green, I guess I had enough of that, so now my house if bursting with colors, most of them quite bright, but it works really well, I guess it is funny in a way since it is not modern design,...and aslo I painted myself quite a few pieces of my wooden furniture in different colors,... i just love it.
IMO colors do make us happy.

One of my favourite poems is called 'Warning' by Jenny Joseph - I love it because its about an old lady who will wear purple, she intends to please herself and wont care what people think of her - empowerment!

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Jenny Joseph

I love purple !! Purple, orange, green and black seem like a good color palette for my home. Thanks!! I am also saving for a table for myself, I have to love it, I won't go for anything standard.

Purple is the color of royalty, prestige, and privilege. It also the color of the Crown Chakra – the highest realm of understanding within human existence.

Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation.

Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color.
Put some violet in your life when you want:

to use your imagination to its fullest
to re-balance your life
to remove obstacles
to calm overactivity or to energize from depression
