20 years ago today...

20 years ago today I walked back into the rooms of AA, broken, defeated, riddled with guilt and shame.

It's not been a dull 20 years, not even close! :lmao

So many blessings have come into my life since then, including my journey into recovery from codependency.

It's been a good day. I took my 22 year old daughter out to eat Mexican food with me, and we enjoyed it.

We talked about the things a mother and daughter talk about. I'm grateful she knows that she can open up to me, and she shared some of the stress she's going through because her life is reaching a crossroads.

I always encourage her to stay strong in her beliefs, and to keep following her dreams.

I know since she has been accepted into and is performing with the mounted drill team now that she feels better about herself. She's made a commitment to that, and I applaud her.

We talked about her favorite movies when she was growing up. We smiled and laughed. This is good.

Thank God she was only 2 years old when I threw 4 years clean/sober out the window because she doesn't remember any of that two month period.

I'm grateful I am able to be a fully present and sober mom.

Thanks for letting me share my joy with all of you today. :)

You have good taste for food :) Great way to celebrate!

Thank you for sharing your journey. I mean thanks to you and other recovered people, I know any addiction can be defeated, and if others don't it is because they don't WANT it, not because they CAN'T. This helps me identify the kind of people I want to be around with...

Is it possible to have a healthy resentment toward... Oh.. Wait! It's actually gratitude and ispiration that someone has achieved what you have! Happy b-day and many more! When I see your name I think of the George Michael song; now I'm going to remember your 20th and that I'm getting old(er)!:c011:

From a daughter who has recently been able to reconnect in that same way with her mother, I agree that it is beyond words.

There is an emotional high I get when I have a great visit with my mom and with my family in general. I drive home refreshed, happy, hopeful, and at peace with myself. Feelings that weren't even possible a decade ago.

How wonderful that you are feelings those things!!! I hope you can have many more moments like it.

It's actually a high that is worth chasing :)

Much love,
Alice
