No! Don't listen to the Smiths when you're depressed! LOL.

Two songs that made me really happy when I was going through the worst of it were Lily Allen's "Smile" and Pink's "So What." They were both on Wii Karaoke, and I sang the hell out of them. I totally don't listen to that kind of music, so it was like my HP secretly brought them into my life via Wii. Then I burned them onto CD and my girls and I would sing them in the car. I actually have fond memories of that painful time. I think those two songs got me through the holidays.

The Smiths? Lily Allen? Not sure who these people are!!!! I guess if I wanted to go all anti-male, I could adopt some Fiona Apple. Perhaps the song, 'limp'!

If you are even remotely familiar with that show "Charmed" that had allysa milano and the other 2 chicks in it, and they were like witches or genies or something....anyway...the theme song to that show is the smiths song I named above. But was a cool depressing song, way before charmed.

anti male??? Seriously...Alanis Morisettes "jagged little pill" Album. Women put that on...I run!!! LOL

*makes note......Runs!!!!

It is a good album, engineered, and produced really well too!

Anyway on a serious note. You are going through a grieving process. Just like a funeral, only instead of a human being. The death is the emotional ties, and feelings you had in the relationship. So it is going to hurt. It will not be forever though. "This too shall pass" is a good thing to remember when you start feeling down.

At the same time...Everytime I hear you contacted him I wanna scream
Because I believe just as much as it is like a funeral, in this case he is also like a drug, or alcohol, and to a degree you are addicted to him, and like an addiction, you can really never just "have one". If you are seriously trying to quit. Same thing with smoking. I could not just have "one". If I do I know I will have to go thru withdrawels and all again. I know I do not ever want to repeat that first week off of tobacco.

You need to detoxify yourself of the poison which is your ex, and leave it far behind. Everytime there is contact you are just dragging out all this misery. It is going to take longer the more you keep hima part of your life.

OMG- you need to break something! Go to kickboxing or throw tupperware. I am so sorry you're going through this. The guy makes me want to puke, for reals. He will wake up some day and truly regret his actions. Ah, people. We truly can't rely on each other for our happiness. Sad, but so true. Do you have good friends, who will help you? I agree with the people telling you to go through the emotions and not fight. I've had a hard time with the contact thing in the past, especially with the super abusive addict I was so sure was my soulmate a few years back. It all turned into a raging fight! You don't need to go there.

2 faves

songs that are on my own "power" mix:

"there she goes" - by either the cranberries or sixpence none the richer.

i don't know, it just makes me feel like "yeah...there I go!"

also, "whole new you" by shawn colvin (this one's super duper)

Good songs!!!

Especially There she goes. In an ironic twisted oxymoronic way it fits here if you know the true meaning behind the song.

eminem has a new one,

about recovery from addiction.

damn, what is the title? oh yeah, recovery!
love those angry young white man raps.

(bridge)

And I just can't keep living this way
So starting today, I'm breaking out of this cage
I'm standing up, Imma face my demons
I'm manning up, Imma hold my ground
I've had enough, now I'm so fed up
Time to put my life back together right now

(Hook)
I'm not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just let you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel that you've been down the same road

Beth

And Tom Petty has one that I loved when I first started recovery (still do love it)

Refugee.

You dont have to live like a refugee.

And Breakdown, in that song I think of Toms voice as my HP telling me to hand it over.
breakdown is alright.

This song made me cry uncontrollably in the car the other day.

REM, Losing my religion.

It summed up my relationship perfectly.

Oh, life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up

(chorus)
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight, I'm
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

(repeat chorus)

But that was just a dream
Try, cry, why try?
That was just a dream
Just a dream, just a dream
Dream

Jenny - I am a man! And so is my Ex! That's why he gives lapdances

Classic choice!
Add "Every breath you take" by The Police. Both powerful songs dealing with the same issue.

EDIT: I will definitely go off tanget in this thread, so warning. Music is a favorite subject.

Awesome! Love you guys! I've heard Eminems new album is awesome... I will have to listen to that song and see how I like it.

Coffeedrinker, you made me laugh out loud with, "i don't know, it just makes me feel like "yeah...there I go!""

Of what songs I do know, those were great choices! Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do with other songs!

Redcrow, I've considered kickboxing, or something of that nature! I don't believe anyone here gets a good vibe from my loser ex (um, I feel really bad even saying that). I'm doubting he'll ever realize his own issues... just don't see it happening.

Fortunately, I have a TON of friends. Well, enough! I'm surrounded by healthy people, who care about me, make me laugh, make me feel good about myself, and encourage me to move forward with my life. For that, I am very grateful. I have reconnected with so many lost friends in the past two months, it's wonderful!

I know what you're up to just the same
I will listen hard to your tuition
You will see it come to it's fruition

Agreed!
Probably one of the most underated Lyricist of all time.
