Totally OT...tat coverup

I know I've been talking about this for some time now, but this Saturday, I actually went in for my first tattoo session, to cover up the stupid mistake I'd inked on myself a few years ago. It's a work in progress mind you, and there's still 3 more hours of filling in and colouring left, but it'll be gorgeous when it's done!

YAY!!
(and yah, I was right: I'd rather give birth to another child than get tattooed. It hurt like a !"/$%?&*|!!).

Heh yah well, I didn't just want to cover up the initials, I wanted to start over completely with a symbol that really means something to me, in light of what's happened in my life. I can't wait to see the end result!

And yes, when I was in labour, I was *in the zone*. I'd taken hypnobirthing classes, I moved around and danced, moaned "OM" for all I was worth, and hung out in the shower for 3 hours. I barely noticed that it took 20 hours total and that I pushed for 2 of those. For the tat, I couldn't move and it drove me crazy! I just focused on thoughts of my gorgeous daughter to get me through (ok so I also dug my nails into the hands of a generous friend!).

It will be almost done in 3 weeks. After that session, there will only be 1 hour of touch-ups left.

Nice piece! It's interesting to see different people's experiences with being inked. My first tattoo was a Chinese dragon on my left hip/leg. He had that one completely done and colored in within 3 hours. My second one was a cow's skull on the right shoulder, with two feathers on one horn, one for each daughter.

My third piece was a full back piece based on a Boris Vallejo painting. It's a winged vampire embracing a nude woman with a serpent at her feet. For me, it represents the deadly seduction of addiction. Very few people have seen that one.

I find getting tattooed very cathartic.

ah, cool, just hoping you are putting up the results too.

About what...having a baby or getting a tattoo?
Oh, no more babies thank you. My oldest is 28 years old, the youngest 17 and on her way out! bwa ha ha ha ha ha! alright, the evil laugh was unnecessary.
but the tattoo i have been thinking about for over 20 years, really.
a special someone designed one for me, and i want to get it done.
actually, i have a little more uh.....lets call it bulk, than you do, so it won't be so close to the bone!
same area though. i can see how it would be especially uncomfortable on the tailbone.

If being in cold sweats, clenching all my muscles, bloodying a friend's hand and letting out quite a few held breaths is "Cathartic"...then yes I agree.

The process is like having all the pain and anguish of my marriage to AH condensed in a few excruciating hours

Current bf also wants a tattoo.
Is it true you can no longer be a blood donor?

tigger...find an image or a symbol (or many!) that appeal to you and find a tattoo artist that's REALLY an artist. Perhaps ask around and see who is recommended by friends or acquaintances who have ink. Work with the person to design what you want. Take your sweet time and be real picky. When the drawing is exactly to your liking, take the plunge! (oyah and shell out the cash!).

TakingCharge...I believe that's an urban myth, just as the one about not being about to get an epidural after a tattoo.

IIRC, it's a year after the tatt that you can give blood. They're pretty picky.

ND, that's the problem... I can't think of anything... with the exception of my favorite flower (lilly of the valley), that I'd like. I've thought about this for Years.

Not for me, thank you my dears......I had 3 kids, have spent 30 days with legs in traction, and anything more painful than those events, I do NOT need, least of all volunteering for it.

My grand daughter has a lovely butterfly tatoo in memory of her best friend from pre school and all thru to graduation (13 years), who had Cystic Fibrosis and died aged 18.

We want a snap of the finished masterpiece, thank you.

God bless
