the signifigance of skunks
On my last trip in the mnts, I saw a ton of skunks.
I looked up skunks online and in a friend's Animal Speaks book and this is what I found:
Just think what a remarkable defense mechanism: Nonviolent, passive, effective. The skunk sends a message to would-be predators: "Nothing personal, just back off and nobody gets hurt."
This unique method of self-protection and the way a skunk handles its predators is symbolic of:
* Defense
* Prudence
* Protection
* Confidence
* Awareness
* Pacification
* Effectiveness
* Good judgment
Other animal symbolism of the skunk include:
* Introspection
* Innocence
* Assurance
* Patience
* Silence
* Peace
Call upon the spirit of the skunk when you need quality judgment in a situation - particularly if you're in a stressful state, or someone is pushing your buttons. The skunk will ease you out of the situation with deft and diplomacy.
Skunks know how to give respect, expect respect and demand respect.
They teach us how to recognize our own qualities and to assert them.
They are self-assured and confident. They are assertive.
Fearless. Peaceful.
They know how to give fair warning about their boundaries and to enforce them without fighting. Then they walk away peacefully.
How rockin' is that??!?

Skunk Medicine means different things to different nations, but in our tradition, skunks can bring you both awareness of how you attract people and your power that way, and also respect.
I saved a baby skunk one day and my Elder told me it was about earning respect in my community too. "think about it," he said, "You sure respect a skunk, now dont ya?"

I was taught skunk is all ABOUT 'reputation'.
You only have to be taught by a skunk... once.
And for all your life - you will NOT forget
that skunk's space.... is sacred.
I like the Medicine Card's Interpretation.
