Outpatient Treatment

Hi all,

My AH finally had his assesement at an outpatient treatment center. I asked him how it went and how his treatment plan looks like. He told me that the lady told him that he needs to go to AA and that he would have group therapy once a week!

I know it's his recovery (or non-recovery) and it's not my place to worry about it. BUT group therapy only ONCE a week? How is that a good treatment plan? I was thinking that he would have individual therapy once a week and group therapy in addition to that! Just wondering what your experience with outpatient treatment centers is? I'm tempted to ask him to go somewhere else and see if he can get better service there.

It IS his recovery, you're absolutely right.

You are correct it is his recovery. Leave it at that.

As a side note, I will share that back in June of '81 the only 'treatment' really available was AA. Now I had died, literally and the 'experts' at the hospital sent me to AA. That was 28+ years ago and I have been sober and clean since.

You see, it is NOT the program or programs, it is the DESIRE of the individual and IF they really want recovery.

How about you work on you, and leave him to work on him?

Love and hugs,

Thanks for your responses...

yes... maybe I am obsessing a little... and definetely taking on his worries/ responsibilities... but just for today... tomorrow I'll be moving on again.

I think it helps me to get my worries out here on the forum. If I get it out and have it talked about, I'm able to move on and leave it behind me. Otherwise I'd be carrying it around with me for who knows how long and would keep worrying about it (this is what I've learned lately... my feelings/ worries won't go away by ignoring them - they only get worse).

I really do appreciate your honesty and the fact that you call me out on things like this.

Laurie - thanks for reminding me that it's the desire that counts!!!
