OT-welcome to my world!

I'm wading through my CPT coding class today. Here are a few samples of what I am working on!

Open-fracture treatment includes which of the following scenarios?
a. The fractured bone is exposed to the environment
b. The bone ends are visualized and internal fixation inserted.
c. The fractured bone is opened remote from the facture site and an intramedullary nail is inserted across the fracture site.
d. All of the above

If an orthopedic surgeon attempted to reduce a fracture but was unsuccessful in obtaining successful alignment, what thipe of code should be assigned for the procedure?
a. A "with manipulation" code
b. A "without manipulation" code
c. An unlisted procedure code
d. An E/M code only

Code the following:
1. Open reduction of knee dislocation with repair of the anterior cruciate ligament by Anchor suture.
2. Putti-Platt procedure, left shoulder
3. ORIF humerus shaft fracture with cast application
4. Thorascopy of the medianstinal space with biopsy
5. Flexible bronchoscopy with placement of catheters for afterloading of radiotherapeutic agents

DeVon, you have my respect and admiration for investing the time and effort to better yourself and your career. And thank you for letting me know that I will never make it as a coder, I'll just stick to being a codie

LMAO! Seriously, I was talking to the other gals in the department on Friday while we were all sitting down to a wonderful lunch of Mexican food (we treat ourselves on Fridays), and I was asking each one whether they preferred transcription or coding.

I find coding fascinating, it requires concentration and attention to detail, which is right up my alley. When I was a COBOL programmer/analyst, I had to be meticulous and accurate. There was no room for error when you have a client requesting 10 grand worth of data.

I really do hope she will eventually let me move into coding after I've graduated and passed the national exam to become registered as a health information technician.

I know I chose the right field for sure!

Geeez, so much for accuracy in my spelling!

thipe = type

medianstinal = mediastinal

Well Dev ............................................ just about the time you finish your courses and get certified ............................................ the 'new' health coverage that the President is trying to get passed will require oh at least 1,000 or maybe 1.500 additional new codes, roflmao so the insurance companies have that many more excuses not to approve payments or procedures.

You have chosen an excellent vocation for the up and coming future.

You go girl!!!!!!

Love and hugs,

(((DeVon)))

Give me just a little while...I don't start my coding classes until the 3rd semester and I'm still waiting for my proctored final exam for semester one to arrive!!!

I think your boss is very fortunate to have you and I hope you get to do whatever part of the job you like the most, as much as you want, and get paid what you want for it

Love, hugs and prayers!

Amy

I think breaking the Enigma Code during the war was easier than what you are doing.
I am so glad you are enjoying whatyou do, and are getting decent hours now, as you were really worried a while back about finances.

God bless
