So I did it! So glad I went.
Hi everyone,
So, I went to my first Al-anon meeting tonight. I am glad that I did. There were 17 of us and everyone was VERY welcoming.
It was funny that first I accidentally went to the AA meeting-didn't know there were 2 meetings in the same church! I felt uncomfortable there because three (yes 3!) of my former clients were there, and it was a 1-year cake party for one of them (that's good to see!)
Someone asked me my sobriety date, and then I clued in that I was in the wrong place...
I didn't speak but they invited me to. I regret not doing so a bit but was trying to listen to everyone and then I couldn't speak at all on that particular topic so all my thoughts of what I would say open forum-wise were jumbled. Oh well. I have lots of pamphlets to read...thanks for telling me to go

Hi I'm new to the forum and I'm very happy for you. I started al-anon about five weeks ago and it is the best thing I've ever done. I'm sure you will find that as well. Just keep going back. It may not seem like it's working at first, but every time you go, you continue to find more peace. The two books: "The Courage to Change" and "One Day at a Time in Al-Anon" can be bought at a meeting. They give you a daily reminder and guidance. They keep me sane thoughout the week. Good Luck to you!!!

Thanks ladies! VictoriaC: yes, I did see the books on the table for sale. i didn't get a chance to look at them last night as there was an Al-anon business meeting right after our meeting. Some people have been attending for decades-wow!
Great News Boo! Alanon has been a real life saver for me. Glad you found a meeting you like the first time out. It helped me so much to hear other people's stories. It helped to model for me a path to serenity. Little by little your attitudes start to change and then your life changes too. Keep going back, and the daily readers are wonderful. See Barbiedeb's posts here each day until you pick one up.
