what step were you o when you got a sponsor?
 

Do I need a sponsor BEFORE doing any of the 12 steps or????

I wasn't anywhere near working the steps when I got a sponsor; but I got my first one the first meeting I went to. She was so kind and gentle that she assured me we needed to work on TRUST before we could do anything else, within a week I was working on Step One....She had me promise to stop reading all self-help books completely. I got them all to help all the other's in my life you know; so they didn't even apply to me. I was so busy fixing everyone I had no time for anything else. For the first year all I read was Conference appproved litature and one other "big book." She had me writing about "me" for heavens sakes....at first I couldn't hardly even write one sentence that was totally me...

Don't wait: go to a meeting and find a sponsor.

They can help you learn to use all the tools that Al-Anon has to offer...

"When the student is ready the teacher will appear."

I hear ya sister!

For the first 5-8 years of my program it was ALL conference approved. I was afraid to look at anything else because they told me what would work! Only now will I explore other writers. And I am a reader and I am a reader of the thinkers. But in the beginning I did what I was told.

Boo...that base has carried me far! Stick with the program...get your legs. And then maybe you can move on. Have you been to a meeting?
