I need to talk...
(((((DeVon)))) I'm so sorry - my heart really hurts for all of you. I wish our animals could live forever - they just are such a source of unconditional love and I find they bring out the best in me.
Turkey and mashed potatoes...that's what i fed my darling Golden Cloe during her last days...Seeing that "smile" and her wagging her tail even though she didn't feel good was very precious.
Thanks for sharing your heart.

DeVon,
Hugs to you and your furbabies from me and mine. They teach us so much about so many things... and only the very most special of them are named Toby. I have that on VERY good authority.

What a wonderful story. I am a dog lover myself (currently have 8 living with me) - and I can see in your dog's eyes that never-ending devotion.
We lost a springer last year, he was 15 and my son's dog since the day I brought him home as a pup. Totally devoted to my son through all the years. The day we had to put him down was sad, but in a way it was also a day to celebrate what a glorious dog he had been his whole life. We took him to the vet together, and I held him while my son stayed face to face with him as he passed. We buried him under a big tree in the yard where years before he'd often lay in the shade on the hot summer days. Everytime I mow over that spot, I never fail to remember him and smile.
Those of us who have dogs (or cats) are blessed with true friendship.
